I'm not opposed to everything. I'm opposed to stupid ass shit that will do nothing but taking away the rights of law abiding citizens. Since AR15's and AK47's are used in almost no crimes in comparison to other firearms or weapons, it's idiotic to ban them.

I think the first step would be to simply enforce the laws that are on the books and remove the ones that make zero sense. Most countries that have stringent gun laws allow users to buy suppressors over the counter. Other than in Hollywood movies, suppressors are almost never used in crimes.

There needs to be a lot more education regarding firearms. When I was a kid firearm safety was taught in middle school and high school. It's truly sad how many kids and people get killed because they or a friend run across a gun for the first time. Basic gun safety needs to be taught rather than people learning everything they know from movies.

Probably the biggest thing that needs to be done is to start working on the hopelessness of living in poverty. Gang violence is the majority of gun deaths in the US. The problem is there is no easy fix for it. It's much easier to blame the guns, or the manufacturers, video games, etc. But politicians don't want to do something that will take time and people don't want to take responsibility. So here we are.

Right, and that's because there's no NATIONAL regulation, so racists and other would-be murderers go out to a rural county or state and buy their guns and ammo there.

You can't go to another state and just buy a gun. If you live in one state and go to another, you have to have the firearm shipped to an FFL in your home state. If the firearm is illegal in the home state you don't get it. You have to pass the FBI NICS background check to purchase a firearm in all states as far as I know. Again, if you don't pass it, you don't get the gun. Last I checked, the FBI is a federal agency and the NICS check is federal. Get a clue.

America has more gun deaths than any other first world nation, and rivals those where cartels and the like pretty much run the show

The US has a more diverse population than just about anywhere in the world. It also has a serious gang problem in the larger cities. Maybe fix that instead of banning a tool.

- Far more kids are being killed in the USA than anywhere near should be - you've got all the usual reasons, and then 400 extra from firearms

Parenting and personal responsibility are insanely different in the US, sadly. The US banned KinderSurprise eggs because parents can't be bothered to make sure their kids don't choke on the toys. Yet somehow just about every other county on the planet has no issues with them.

- Same as above, but waaay more for teenagers

How bad is the gang situation in other first world countries? That's the vast majority of gun homicides in the US, and why teenagers have such a high rate of being killed. Maybe, I don't know, fix that issue? But that's difficult, so lets just blame a tool. Lawn darts were banned for sale in the US after the gangs started throwing them out of speeding cars at people. How much has that lowered the murder rate?

What about the defensive use of guns in the US? Don't forget, those are included in the homicides. The fact that the CDC states (or used to until it didn't match the narrative) that guns are used at minimum it's 60,000? . Or three times the murder rate. The high end is 2.5 million. A gun is one hell of an equalizer for women, or a single person vs. multiple assailants. Most of the time a criminal will rethink their target simply because they see the victim has a gun. No shots fired.

Just ban gun ownership, or else regulate the shit out of it. It seems to work just about everywhere else, you're nothing special. You can do it too.

There are already over 20K gun laws on the books in the US. A huge chunk of those aren't enforced. How about we enforce what we have and see what that does before we got full stupid? Background checks are already used in virtually every state. Most guns used in crimes are stolen. Banning guns has not worked all that great as far as I've seen. Sure, gun death go down. But violent crime and murder don't. They typically spike for 8 to 10 after a ban and then level out to what they were pre-ban. Criminals just find a new tool and innocent law abiding people become easier targets.

If nothing continues to be done about gun violence in this country, yes, expect that and much worse and even less sensical.

You're correct. The first thing that needs to be done is responsible reporting. Next would be for people to stop lying their asses off about gun violence.

According to the CDC there were 48,117 total gun deaths in the US in 2022. Almost 30k were suicides. So over 56% of all firearm deaths were Suicide. Not murders, mass shootings, etc. 372 were accidents, 649 were by law enforcement. That leaves 19592 homicides and 411 undetermined. We'll lump the 311 in with homicides and call it 20,003 homicides. So 41% of gun deaths were homicides in 2022. Unfortunately this figure also includes any self defensive use of a firearm as well.

Additionally, the CDC classifies "children" as age 19 and below. I'm too lazy and it's late, so I don't feel like looking it up, but the number of gun deaths of kids under 13 is less than 400 per year for any given year, including accidents. Regardless, when any politician brings up the number one cause of death for children, they almost always say it's children under 18. Yet they include the stat of 4590 in 3033 which includes 18 and 19 year olds.

The FBI breaks things down by type of firearm. This was the first link I found, so it only goes to 2019. But if you look at the firearm type used, the number of homicides that used a rifle are under 400 per year. Those "evil assault weapons" are a subset of this number. The total number of homicides that occurred using a rifle of any kind amounted to less than 3% in any given year. And "assault weapons" are a tiny subset of those. On any given year, twice as many people are killed by hands and feet as all rifles combined. Knives kill 5 times )or more) people compared to all rifles combined. "Assault weapons" bans are stupid. People are afraid of a big black gun, because feelings. Not facts or reality.

The reality is that most firearm homicides are gang related and it's ages 15 to 25ish. The CDC was forced to remove their statistics regarding the defensive use of guns as it was 60.000 to 2.5 million per year. I also find they way guns are blamed for homicides and not the person. But when a gun is used defensively, the person wielding the gun always gets the credit. Something is backwards. I dont see here.

There's a reason why cars with the original numbers matching engine are worth more than one with a replaced engine. Chopping it up and turning it into an EV would completely ruin a classic cars value. At that point, just get a kit car and make it an EV from the ground up. While most people categorically deny that the Beatniks in the 50's created rap. They read poetry to repetitive drum and bass lines and called it "rapping". You can be the judge. Yeah, there are discussions in Europe to install square kms or solar panels in the Sahara to bring electricity to Europe... And letting yet other unstable governments and religious fanatics have the power to set their prices and conditions at a whim ?!?

There are a ton of issues with putting enough solar in the Sarah to power the EU. First of all, it's extremely expensive to do. There is no infrastructure in place to get the panels, and necessary power lines inverters, etc. in place. Then you need to get all of the installation equipment and personnel there and back.

The extreme temperature fluctuations degrade the panel life expectancy as well as all the lines and equipment attached to it. You'll also need to find people to live there. So getting housing, food, water, etc is another logistical issue that needs to be resolved.

There there are the environmental concerns. The Sarah isn't just a barren wasteland. While very few people live there, there is wildlife. The Mediterranean sea and Atlantic depend on nutrients that are blown out of the Sarah to feed the plankton. If you cover 1 ro 2% of the desert with panels, how will this be affected? We have no clue. There's also the EM coming off of the power lines. Until recently, I never gave that any thought. But there will be a lot of it when you move that kind of power. Sturgeons, sharks, skates, and rays have been long know to be sensitive to this. It's starting to look like whales may be as well. Sure, we can shield the power lines But how practical is that for a project of this scale?

We can probably over come any issues in theory. But I have to wonder if it becomes practical or even possible in reality. All I ever see it "look at all this solar power we could be using". Which sounds fantastic, until you actually look at reality. There's a reason it hasn't been done yet. Hopefully we'll figure it out, and soon.
