Comment Re:Control is What Matters (Score 1) 370

The reason many of us prefer a manual gearbox for a petrol engine is because it provides more control. Petrol engines have to operate in a limited RPM range which is why they need a gearbox to cover the range of speeds of a vehicle plus you need the ability to switch to a low gear to act as a retarding mechanism when going down hill. Having an automatic means that the car is making the decision when to switch gears for you hence the lack of control.

Gearboxes have moved on from the hydraulic oil mechanical valve gear shifting of the 1970s. Modern computer controlled automatic gearboxes have more speeds than a manual box so can keep them in the right engine range for longer and can account for that and better than a human can. They'll change gear earlier in eco mode to ensure a higher load on the engine to give you better economy, they'll keep it in the power band range in performance mode to give you the fastest acceleration. My 44 tonne truck has an automatic gearbox, in fact I've not driving one with a manual gearbox for over a decade and manual boxes are an optional extra here in Europe. Going downhill on cruise control it will automatically engage the engine retarder once the speed gets 2MPH above the pre-set speed and drop the gears needed to maintain that speed, on steep hills heavily loaded enough so that the revs of the engine are just below the red line which gives maximum engine braking.

Not possible as this gearbox does gearc hanges with the period with no drive measured in single digit milliseconds, they can open and close in 2ms. It has already pre-selected a gear before you even go to change it. Performance auto boxes in more reasonable road cars can do a gear change in a couple of tenths of a second...whilst you're still moving your arm on a manual box the auto has already done the gearchange.. A human simply can't move fast enough to keep up.

I hear your sentiments, but Assange is in the UK, and they speak English and not German because the US did precisely not fuck off

Hitler had given up plans to invade the UK long before the USA arrived. By the time the USA turned up the Royal Navy had sunk most of the German surface fleet with the remainder stuck in Norwegian Fyords because as soon as they ventured into the North Sea they were sunk, and the RAF destroyed most of the Luftwaffe in the Battle of Britain finally ending Hitler's plans of an invasion. The USA only started to send aid and get involved once the British had won the Battle of Britain and it was obvious an invasion wasn't going to happen. Prior to that the policy of the USA was that it was a war in Europe and not to get involved because Britain was a lost cause.

Under what legal theory can Assange, a non-U.S. citizen, be prosecuted for "crimes" that he didn't commit in the U.S.?

The legal principle is that you cannot direct harm from another state however something has to be an offence in both nations. He isn't being prosecuted in the UK, he's been held as a result of an extradition request. He was prosecuted and served time for jumping bail but continued to be held because of the extradition request and how much of a flight risk he posed.

The Xbox console itself has had mouse and keyboard support for quite a few years.

So just the same as those in the Playstation controllers and on the Nintendo Switch?

Why, does it mean that mining BTC uses less power? Oh wait, no it doesn't. In fact the halving serves to make the power requirements to mint a coin even higher than the insane amount of energy it already needs.

It got even more shady than that. A lot of BTC was bought using USDT and despite the original claim that it was a stablecoin where every single USDT was backed by $1 USD it turned out that wasn't the case and those running USDT were just minting the shit out of USDT to go on a buying spree of BTC to whack the price up.
