Comment Two red flags (Score 1) 65

There are two things that make me doubt whether this plane will make it to market.

1. Laminar flow is not magic or new. Things like bugs, rain, turbulence, and high angles of attack can convert laminar into turbulent flow.

2. A V-12 diesel engine probably does not have the best power-to-weight ratio. If it did, other piston planes would be using them. A turbine engine might be better. If the plane is flying at higher speeds, it will have to fly at higher altitudes, and a turbine engine is more efficient at this.

Comment It's a matter of time. (Score 3, Interesting) 240

Tesla plans to market chassis, software, batteries, etc. to other carmakers. It's a matter of time until a small company buys these and sells an electric car with open source, highly customizable. There is definite a demand. The Tesla Models 3 and Y, like any car, have plenty of stupidity incorporated into their user interface. It will be great to be able to fix things.
