Comment What about the gun? (Score 1) 485

Who cares about the wiretapping. Isn't the real issue the fact that the cop pulled a gun BEFORE even identifying himself? IANAL but in my opinion, that is a big NONO. And he got caught on video. Why does this guy still collect a paycheck of tax-payer money? Skip to 3:10 and watch for yourself. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RK5bMSyJCsg

Windows Phone 7 Gaming and Xbox Live 99

Engadget is running a preview of Microsoft's attempt to bring Xbox Live to upcoming Windows Phone 7 devices. Launch titles will include Guitar Hero, Castlevania, and Halo: Waypoint, and many of the features from the console version of Xbox Live will make the transition intact. Quoting: "Live on WP7 will allow for full avatar integration (we're talking fully rendered, interactive avatars) along with customization (clothes, accessories, and more). The company has even crafted an avatar-centric version of familiar phone utilities like flashlight apps and levels, adding some whimsy to what would normally be pretty staid affairs. Additionally, messaging, friend lists / status, achievements, and leaderboards (with friend comparisons) are all here as well, making for a pretty complete mobile Xbox Live experience. And also just like the console, every game will have a try-before-you buy demo to check out before spending your hard-earned cash."

I wonder how this will get around UAC, a substantially annoying feature of Windows Vista/7. Will they be installing firefox to the user's home directory? Will it be sand-boxed from the OS? I admit I haven't done much looking into the pre-release so I apologize for any ignorance I might be showing.

Comment A feature to disable (Score 1) 287

While I usually install all updates for firefox, and Windows, for that matter... I keep both update mechanisms disabled. I update my PC when I choose to and more often than not, i read changelogs and release notes. This feature is probably best for the average Joe type of computer user who doesn't know or care about updates.

Dog Eats Man's Toe and Saves His Life 207

Have you ever been so drunk that you passed out and your dog ate your toe? I haven't either, but luckily for Michigander Jerry Douthett, he has. It turns out Jerry has type 2 diabetes and a wound on his toe had becoming dangerously infected. After a night of drinking Jerry passed out in his chair and the family dog Kiko decided to do a little doggy doctoring. From the article: "'The toe was gone,' said Douthett. 'He ate it. I mean, he must have eaten it, because we couldn't find it anywhere else in the house. I look down, there's blood all over, and my toe is gone.' [Douthett's wife] Rosee, 40, rushed her husband to the hospital where she's a gerontology nurse — Spectrum Health's Blodgett Campus. Kiko had gnawed to a point below the nail-line. When tests revealed an infection to the bone, doctors amputated what was left of the toe."
