Comment Re:This only works if everyone does it (Score 1) 203

I try to enforce a one hour time limit of my daughter's tablet and smartphone, so spends at least some time during the day not staring at screens and being constantly brainwashed by whatever YouTube and Disney are trying to sell her that given month.

I don't know if it's working, but I could see early on that she's learning bad behaviors from these devices and I'm trying to cut back where I can.

Yeah, I'm not exactly feeling threatened by AI at this point. If you ask Bard or ChatGPT to write code for you, it's usually at the quality level of a college intern. Sure, it's (mostly) syntactically correct, but it's often not the most elegant, efficient, or secure solution.

If someone was dumb enough to put this code into production as written, they're probably going to need to hire a consultant later on to fix it.

If I was a first level IT help desk person who basically tells people to turn their devices on and off all day, I might feel more threatened than I am now.

Yeah, I really wasn't all that impressed with Flowers of the Killer Moon. It really did felt like it could have been edited better. Parts of the movie felt like Scorcese was beating a dead horse, and they could have easily cut about 30 minutes of filler content and made for a movie with much better pacing.

Yeah, try going into something like the NVIDIA subreddit and say something truthful but negative about Jensen Huang. You'll get downmodded by his fanboy army into oblivion faster than you can say "leather jacket!". I don't know how many of these people are getting free product for shilling the brand, but I can't imagine that it's a trivial amount.

YouTube TV is basically the streaming version of Cable TV, so it already has a bunch of commercials.

They do have "zen" moments with pretty beach scenes and whatnot where the channel identifier breaks used to go. I could see more of those getting filled by advertising. I mean, it's Google... "Do No Evil" only applies to their business models until they get a leadership position.

Yeah... if he kept just 1% of it (Which is possible, "pre-mining" wasn't unusual back when they launched crypto back then), his stake would be worth over 8 Billion dollars now.

I certainly wouldn't be taking credit for that, knowing that the IRS is going to audit the hell out of you to find capital gains that you didn't pay taxes on.

I might be biased, but I don't think that you're a "low" user ID unless you are under user ID 200,000. If you are, you're probably one of the "Slashdot OG's" who was here in the 1990's back when Slashdot was new and cool.

Anyway, back on topic. I'm not a fan of Microsoft Game Pass, because the DRM for it is obnoxious. You have to be online to validate that you're still "allowed" to play the game, and the validation system doesn't seem to be particularly stable. When I recently gave it a 1 month trial, there were a few days where I couldn't get games to launch at all. The XBox application is also very spammy and constantly throws advertising into your notification tray. Yeah, you can disable that, but it seemingly comes back in different ways when they do software updates.
