Submission + - Labor shortages, supply chain disruptions, face Florida after Ian (techtarget.com)
dcblogs writes: Florida's rebuilding is expected to be hindered by a shortage of skilled workers and essential goods. The unemployment rate for construction workers before the fourth most powerful storm on record, Hurricane Sandy in 2012, was 11.3%. In August of 2022, it was 3.9%. "In other words, there are far fewer experienced workers available to meet current demand, let alone a storm surge in demand," said Ken Simonson, chief economist at The Associated General Contractors of America, an industry group. The overall unemployment rate in Florida is 2.7%, below the national average of 3.7%. Meanwhile, nationwide shortage of critical electrical equipment could slow power repairs. Florida residents were already experiencing shortages of critical household items, a supply chain problem expected to worsen.
