I was just thinking about that the other day. It seemed so illogical that I thought that maybe it was a false memory, just idea that I had that never actually happened. I remember the "solution" too. Cut in front of your friend, and then let your friend immediately cut in front of you.

Why would hardware manufacturers bother to write drivers for a Windows Beta release? Especially one that probably won't be released for several years, and the driver requirements and API and such are likely to change several times before then. So many people are happy with XP or Linux, they can wait until the first RC to come out (Microsoft calls it Gold).

I bought a WRT54GL just a few months ago, and installed DD-WRT on it. It's OK, although DD-WRT has some issues. Nothing worth singing about. The hardware is only "antiquated" in that it has twice the RAM and Flash storage as newer, cheaper devices.

And I totally agree about only buying routers that can run opensource firmwares.

Comment Re:So... how does this violate the GPL? (Score 2, Informative) 252

If you distribute a GPL program, you are required to specify that you are using GPL software, and you must let your users know their rights to view, modify and distribute the source code. Additionally, you are required to give them the source, or offer to do so.

The GPL is more or less straightforward and easy to understand. http://www.gnu.org/licenses/gpl.txt
