Comment Pivot from One Destructive Scam to Another (Score 3, Insightful) 48

Our strategy really has been about bootstrapping the datacentre platform with bitcoin mining, and then just preserve optionality on the whole digital world. The distinction with us and crypto-miners is we're not really miners, we're datacentre people.

Both burn huge amounts of fuel to generate absolutely nothing of value. What they're really saying is, "think of our data center the furnace."

Comment How It Might Go (Score 1) 36

  • Add gaming "option" by default to all existing Netflix accounts along with a "modest" price increase.
  • Customers can got through a process to remove the gaming option only to find that the price of Netflix without gaming has also increased.
  • Bonuses all around at the C suite while customer base steadily shrinks.

Comment Amazon of the Air (Score 3, Insightful) 39

Perhaps the problem has more to do with the proliferation of crappy vendors in the spare parts marketplace than it does with inventory tracking methods. The electrical and electronics parts marketplace is chock full of bad actors hawking utter crap at bargain prices, so why shouldn't the aerospace parts marketplace be buried in crap as well? Wouldn't it be more effective to go after the AOG Technics, i.e., Amazons of the Air, with the full force an fury of the criminal justice system? I don't think that conspiracy to commit murder charges for those involved would be out of line.

Comment US Motivates China to Excel (Score 2, Insightful) 54

I cannot think of a better way to foster excellence than to make it a matter of national prestige or perhaps one of national survival. The US is on the right track for pressing the Chinese semiconductor industry to excel. They may not succeed with their current generation of fabs, but they almost certainly will with their next.

Comment My Most Productive Collaborations (Score 4, Informative) 42

My most productive collaborations have been one on one in a setting with no interruptions. A walk away from the office, an extended conversation in a coffee shop, or even a conference room at the office. Phones off, no distractions allowed. Conversely, the least useful collaborative experiences have been large group meetings in person, with the worst being online meetings where everyone is trying to do other work at the same time. YMMV.
