No, that is still a copyright violation. The fact that you can't seem to figure that out means you may soon be getting not just a take down letter but a bill for the copyright violation's you do.

When I find people have stolen my photographs I send them a bill. Most pay. Those that don't then get letters sent to their ISP, web host, employer, organization, etc.

Don't steal.

Good. This is how copyright works. Just because I put my photos onto my website or let someone else use my photos DOES NOT GIVE ANYONE ELSE PERMISSION.

I've dealt with this repeatedly. I send the offender a bill for $500. They pay and then they get to use the photo with permission. If they don't pay I contact their ISP, web host, their organization and anyone else to let them know this person is stealing photos from me. Their ISP and web host routinely will shut people down for having stolen copyrighted material.

Don't steal.

Comment Touch Screens with Tactile Feedback and Relief/Dep (Score 1) 211

Two thoughts on this before everyone overreacts (Sorry about those of you who already did overreact):

1. The touch screen style keys could bulge up slightly and depress slightly when pressed. This would give us the tactile feedback we're used to having with mechanical keyboards with the advantages of non-mechanical devices that would last longer, possibly indefinitely (compared to your short human lifespan). Sound can be played through the speakers to give you the auditory feedback you so love (or don't in which case you can turn off the sound feedback).

2. The entire keyboard can be a display so when you don't want to use it as a keyboard you can have a clamshell book that has two displays, the primary and the keyboard. Advances in materials sciences with nano-surfaces will help those of you with greasy fingers keep your keyboard and display clean.

These are existing technologies. Time to implement them and get away from physical keyboards.

I've been a 'typist' for 50 years. I type very fast on a mechanical keyboard. I have a MacBook Pro 17" late-2011. I love it. But the dirt getting under the keyboard and wearing out of keys is a real issue that could be solved improving the experience.

For those of you who still want a traditional mechanical keyboard to lovingly stroke and fondle you can get one that connects via Bluetooth or USB. Everyone's (reasonably) happy.

The Earth is capable of sustainably containing 50,000,000,000 (50 Billion) people. That would leave the oceans and 25% of the (non-desert) land area as wild zones. The current problem is that people use too many resources. Travel is a HUGE part of this. Too many people waste resources in other ways like heating and cooling. This isn't necessary. I've built buildings that prove it. But that requires thinking differently. We need that 50 Billion people because we need more minds thinking about hard problems. So go out there and have kids, read to your kids and encourage them to make a difference, to solve big problems.

In some countries they require women to wear burkas so American Airlines is planning this for all their female stewardesses and pilots world-wide?

Comment Re:Why Patents are Absurd (Score 1) 39

All too much work that results in patents is simply a matter of methodically working through combinations. I have invented a lot of things that way. Then I put them into manufacture and sell the products. That is the proper way to make money from your ideas. Patents ban other people from having similar ideas and using them. Patents are a bad idea and are being used to stifle innovation rather than the original purpose of promoting innovation.

You don't actually know what you're talking about. Perhaps you read your statement somewhere but based on what you're saying you're not talking from experience.

I have actually repeatedly invented things, manufactured them for years with companies I setup to do that, sold my products and made my money that way over the last >40 years. I speak from experience.

The patent system is broken and designed for the benefit of big corporations and against inventors. Better to just get rid of the patent system.
