Comment 2.2.1 FTW (Score 1) 684

This is why I'm still on 2.2.1 and refuse to upgrade my iPhone, PS3, Wii, etc until all these stupid issues have been sorted out. BTW i can tether with my jailbroken phone no problem. Who cares about their restrictions?

Comment If the Government Can, anyone can... (Score 5, Interesting) 61

This popped up a couple years ago when they started turning anyone's cell phones into a wireless microphone (even when off). Ever since then I have had zero expectations of privacy with a cell phone around. I don't assume they are doing it (or anyone is) but the possibility is there. http://news.cnet.com/2100-1029_3-6140191.html

Comment AT&T DECT 6.0 (Score 2, Interesting) 199

I bought the AT&T DECT 6.0 from best buy not too long ago once my old land line died. It comes with 2 handsets (a base with answering service, and additional charger and handset). You can add as many more handsets as you want (I'm sure there is an upper limit...like 10 or 12).

Sure I had to put some gaff tape over all the AT&T Logos, but small price to pay. When I walk in my house, my iphone cuts in automagically and all calls ring through to the home handsets. The only downer is that it pulls the caller ID information and compares it to the internal phonebook, and not the phonebook in your cell phone. If a number is in your phone but not in your AT&T phone it will just show you the number on the ID, and not the name. When I walk out of the house, by the time i'm down the block I'm into normal cell operation again. Haven't had any problems with it at all. Looks sleek too.

Comment Keyboards will stay, mice will die out. (Score 1) 152

I do stage lighting for a living, and we use the latest Road Hog console ( www.highend.com) to do it. It is essentially a computer with 2 touch screens and their mixture of buttons and faders that make it great. It does include a number pad and trackball. You can download the software for Windows to see it. You can either hook up a keyboard or use one on the screen as you need it (anything longer than a few words in a row gets tedious).

I've got to be able to use this computer fast. The touch screens allow really quick access to lots of stuff, particularly because each hand can be doing a different things. There's a whole menu bar that just changes around views of the touchscreens so you have 10 different layouts available with one push. You also get lots of nice combinations like hold a place on the touch screen and hit a shift key on the keyboard to activate different functions.

I think the keyboard is here to stay but the mouse may get left out by some people. Probably always used by niche groups but computers with a modified OS are totally usable without them.

To fix the arms tiring thing, we'll simply have to have monitors at a more natural angle. Like the ones on the lighting console.
