A fair question. In a word, no. The 64-bit refers to the address space available to the programs. 32-bit address space was limited to 4GB while 64-bits can address more memory than most of us can afford. Performance should be about the same unless the application has been compiled optimized for 64-bit in which case my may run somewhat faster.
Where the speed improvements double is when the instructions can process 64 bits of data in a 'word' useful for large numbers.
