This. Remove the artificial restrictions and user count will explode exponentially. I have multiple machines that would run Windows 11 great (and I could make them run it with well documented workarounds), but I don't want to risk breaking changes seeing as they're not "supported". So, for now, Windows 10 is good enough.

Or even swap Apple for Google and iPhone for Android Phone if you want to narrow it down to similar devices. You can sideload apps, you can install 3rd party app stores (some manufacturers even bundle their own app stores from the factory), etc.

Fact of the matter is....if half the people ended up with a 10th of the wealth these billionaires had, they wouldn't do what they're asking the billionaires to do.

All well and good to tell someone what they should be doing when you're not in the same position as them.

Do I think it's a good thing for an individual should have that much wealth, while others suffer and / or get poorer? Not at all, but it's not my place to decide "should haves" and "shouldn't haves".

Comment Checkbox (Score 1) 215

My last Mac computer had a checkbox to only allow store apps that you had to turn off if you wanted to install something downloaded from the internet.

If it's on by default (so those who don't know any better are still protected by the walled garden approach) with the option to turn it off - what's the harm other than the potentially minor one to Apple's profits? If anything, it may even tempt some people to switch to iOS.
