It didn't stop China to grow from a 3rd world country to top dog. Hell, when the US didn't acknowledge patents it helped them too a lot.

This seems like something that will slow down the development of technology in the west, and thus indirectly support developments in countries that don't care about western patents (all others that can't be forced by the US to enforce them).

Just parse the website, like NewPipe does with Youtube.

That already existed in the 1990's, in some discussion groups about the scientology cult it was heavily used to weed out all the spam from the cult followers who tried to overwhelm the opponents.

The API is too limited anyway (like not showing nsfw content). If they just load the website version and parse it, like Newpipe does with Youtube, there is nothing Reddit can do except blocking access from a webbrowser but then they kill themselves. Sometimes Newpipe suddenly doesn't work when there are changes in Youtube but that is usually quickly fixed and happens infrequently.

I prefer to work in the office and be free when I'm at home. Maybe I can be reachable in an emergency but that's it. I turn down all "remote-only" job offers because I don't think this works well in practice.

No thanks, I prefer to write my software in the office, communicate also informal with collegues from other departments to know what is going on in the office. Sure, I can ask quesions via Teams if I have to but that has a much higher treshold.

All those "I want to work only from home" types can and eventually will be replaced by Asians and East-Europeans for much less money than they can live from. If they are never in the office anyway that doesn't make much difference, and those people are willing to shft their time table with the office hours of the client for a job that pays very good for their local standards.

Most C++ compilers allow to define which newer languge version to use - 11, 14 or 20 - and give a compile error if you use a C++20 feature while compilng with the 11 or 14 flag.
