Comment Keyboard + Mouse is a barrier to realism (Score 1) 202

for FPS games on the computer. There is nothing realistic at all about slightly dragging your mouse to a corner and firing. Yes it is way more accurate than the controller from a console, and you can spin around a lot faster. But it takes no skill to aim, as long as you can navigate a desktop you can aim in a PC FPS. The hardcore fanatic FPS players on the PC will always whine and moan about dual joysticks but its not as if their solution is furthering the gameplay experience either. The only controller setup that better mimics real life is the Wii for FPSs. The speed and ease of it is still difficult, but thats probably a good thing. Aiming in real life is not nearly as easy as moving your mouse. And moving and aiming is certainly much more difficult. Every time I hear PC gamers complain about console gamers they refuse to acknowledge that while their control setup may be superior its certainly not the best option for the "realism" they always claim to crave.

Comment Re:Havok anyone? (Score 2, Insightful) 113

Havok is just a physics engine that is added to other game engines. The Source engine uses a heavily modified Havoks physics engine. Even the Wii runs the Havoks physics engine in some of its top tier games. The same reason Havok was not included is the same reason Natural Motion was not.

Comment What about the DS? (Score 1) 86

"Sony is finally responding to the threat posed by the iPhone" thats nice and all, but they are still 5 years late (and counting) on responding to the DS. The PSP was released initially to compete against the DS. Nintendo proved once again why they dominate the hand held realm and now Sony is moving the goal posts for who its real competition is. The same thing happened when the Wii ran over the 360 and PS3. Just because its not as powerful as your game system does not mean its not directly competing it. If I was Sony, I would just spend the resources on getting the PSP 2 correct. Also, do something about that thumbstick. I would love to get a PSP but it feels like sliding a dime across the kitchen counter, I can't do it. It just feels so wrong.

I just use mine to tell me how far I am from my destination. And its fun to find out what body of water I am driving by, or the name of that industrial park. I still prefer to learn the backroads manually of an area I live in because its good to know. Also my GPS is built into a car so I need to know them when in my fiance's car. in this current economic situation, when people don't want to spend a ton of money on anything. And they are looking for entertainment and don't want to invest in an entertainment center, they will go with the Wii, like they have been for 2 years now. It is in direct competition with the PS3. Nobody but highend audio and video freaks care about Blu-ray, when people look at buying the PS3 as compared to the other system its based upon games and whom they can play those games with. Thats why the 360 is destroying it and thats why the Wii is destroying both of them. Denying the wii is in competition with them is just a way for someone to feel better about their purchase. I know many people that wanted a PS3 but didn't want to pay that much and went with a Wii instead, or a Wii-360 combo.

Comment Re:Control Scheme (Score 0) 114

in other words you have never played a single resident evil because they have all had control schemes that restricted movement and shooting. Resident Evil 4 has almost similar controls and that was still one of the best games last generation and undoubtedly in the top 20 of all time. The controls work perfectly fine, you just have to learn how to play in their environment.
