Update notifications were one thing I think Windows 8 did right. They were more noticeable than the tiny little tray icon and its ephemeral bubble. Sort of like a polite nag so the need to reboot was in the forefront of the user's mind. But the reboots were never forced.
Shoving Win10 down my Win7 PC's throat - after numerous declinations, registry modifications and local group policy settings - was the final straw for me. 100% free of Windows on my home PC ever since.
At the very least, adding this capability to the kernel will open the door for many-sizes-fit-some APIs. It's a start but who knows how FGPA standards may evolve in the next 5-10 years?

I can host my own Bitwarden server so that my different devices can still share the same database without relying on a 3rd party cloud host. Open source, frequently audited, client is available for every major OS and web browser.

FTP works very well if you aren't worried about privacy. (Uploading graphics and HTML files to a public web server, for instance.)
You can tunnel active and passive FTP through SSH. It's just not as elegant as SFTP.
It's more accurate to say that unintelligent people tend to identify as conservative. They're far easier for right wing organizations to manipulate.
But there is nothing liberty-minded about the contemporary liberal (as that term is now used) contingent running education in K-through-PhD. The opposite.
