The reason stocks are a decent investment is dividends.

Close but not exactly. It's more about profit than dividends. Berkshire Hathaway famously doesn't pay dividends preferring to reinvest profits, whereas paying dividends without underlying profits is almost the definition of a Ponzi scheme.

Which isn't to say I disagree that holding a blue chip stock paying regular dividends doesn't have a lot going for it. Just that dividends aren't everything.

It was my understanding that the workers were doing longer days of work each day (10 hours) to make up for the day off. They aren't getting a paid day off, they're still doing 40 hours, just in four days not five. This makes it sound like its a gift from employers to pay them for a day off.

Well, possibly. It's not really the idea of the four day week to compress five days work into four days but no doubt some of the companies ran it like that. The idea is that you can be more 'in the zone' for four days and spend less time on unproductive tasks. Certainly my ex-boss, when he semi-retired, said that switching to part time work forced you to be more disciplined with your time.

So now you simply deposit money and it becomes a token? Ok great. But what-a-bout all the speculators that could make money by just churning through CPU cycles - do they just migrate to other crypto now?

If they are ASIC miners, they may have to hope that the 'unofficial' fork holds its value. I imagine the economics of mining a well-known coin like Etherium with actual CPU are fairly bad.

That's not how you engineer things. You make an assessment on how likely extreme events are and do a cost benefit analysis. And "we already have redundant data centres, so losing one temporarily isn't a big deal" comes into that equation.
