+ - Should two-character domain names be allowed?

Submitted by
vidarh writes "ICANN has just opened a public comment period on whether people with two-character names should be allowed to use them on the .name gTLD. Global Name Registry has requested that they be released so people can use them. From the ICANN posting:

"ICANN has made a preliminary determination that the GNR proposal requires further consideration by the Registry Services Technical Evaluation Panel (RSTEP) because ICANN does not have sufficient information to determine whether the issues raised in RFC 1535, as well as similar issues not directly described in RFC 1535, are significant enough to prevent the limited release of two-character names in .NAME"

Two-character names are common. According to example, in China the name Li is held by about 7.9% of the population, or about 100 million people on this name alone.

Do you have a two-character name?

For anyone who wants to comment to ICANN directly, the email address for the proposal is"
