+ - Wireless card resources for Linux?

Submitted by RallyDriver
RallyDriver (49641) writes "There are a couple of common issues with resources listing what hardware works with Linux and other open source OS'es ... one is that data is spotty and hard to come by, the other is that they are invariably written from the perspective of "if you already have this piece of hardware, here's how to bludgeon it into working" rather than the perspective of "if you already use Linux, buy this brand of card and it will just work with no fuss".

The problem is particularly acute with 802.11 wireless hardware — there are a few sites which cross reference each other, but data is terribly sparse. The nearest to the "just works" experience seems to be the Intel Centrino (ipw2200) chipset, but even that requires a firmware download.

Where do you look before buying hardware?"

The Force is what holds everything together. It has its dark side, and it has its light side. It's sort of like cosmic duct tape.
