+ - Nokia continues to cut developer services-> 4

jbernardo (1014507) writes "Afflicted by still lower than expected sales of Windows Phones, this time, Nokia drops a hosting service for projects, projects.developer.nokia.com. Registered developers received an email starting with the following paragraph:

"With some sadness we announce that the Nokia Developer Projects service (https://projects.developer.nokia.com) will be discontinued in the following months (due to ongoing trend of low activity and increasing costs). Please backup any project data you wish to save as soon as possible (ideally within the next few weeks). After the service has been stopped all unsaved data will be lost!"

The email then goes on to detail on how to use git, mercurial or subversion to pull project data. It seems the news are still only distributed by email, no mention as of now (2013-07-18 11h30 GMT+2) on the Nokia developers site itself.

Particularly interesting is the "ongoing trend" line. It implies that, as feared, the situation keeps getting worse for Nokia, despite all optimism projected by upper management."

    That's in quotes or at least a start quote. I doubt that was in an email from Nokia. This whole article is headline grabbing and rampant speculation. We have an email that isn't being quoted in full and conclusions drawn being attributed to an email.

    • The opening quotes were a typing error, and in fact that sentence is mine only, but I can find recent nokia press releases stating their still lower than expected sales and the fact that windows phone is still a loss generator and not a profit generator.

      The quoted email part is the one in italic, as well as between quotes. It is the beginning of the email, and the rest of it are only instructions on how to use git, mercurial and subversion to download the projects currently hosted by nokia.

      As for the whole

        Windows Phone losing money and does not imply that Nokia decides to drop the projects portal because of the losses. That was you just making stuff up. The story is that Nokia dropped a developer service. That's what you know you have no idea as to why. Speculating it had something to do with bad sales might be reasonable if Noki

1 + 1 = 3, for large values of 1.
