+ - What Your 'Selfie' Says About You

Submitted by theodp
theodp (442580) writes "Over 100 million Instagram photos are tagged simply as '#me,' but Business Insider's Owen Thomas notes that the digital self-portrait — the selfie — is still somehow seen as a scourge, a threat to our well-being, a trend that must end. Psychologist Pamela Rutledge, however, dismisses these critiques as weak pop science. The urge to record one's own image is as old as humanity, she says, pointing to cave paintings and Egyptian hieroglyphs. "The only way to get to know people is to disclose something of yourself," Rutledge says. Hey, finally something Vincent van Gogh and Brett Favre can agree on!"
