itwbennett writes "It used to be that all you needed to put out a podcast was a microphone, a computer and some content. If a company called Personal Audio has its way, that list may soon also include money to pay licensing fees. In January, the company filed lawsuits against three big podcasters: ACE Broadcasting Network, which produces the Adam Carolla podcast, HowStuffWorks.com and Togi Entertainment. The patent was filed in 1996 and approved last year and covers any 'Apparatus for disseminating a series of episodes represented by media files via the Internet as said episodes become available.'"
