Submission + - SPAM: Southern California Security

rpstrong writes: I just received an email from my electric company (Southern California Edison) advising me that "for enhanced security," my login name would be automatically changed from my vendor-specific login name to my very public email address (with no actiion required on my part).

I've replied, asking how revealing half of my name/password combo would enhance my security, but haven't had time for a response.

Can anyone tell me how requiring an email address as a login name enhances security?
