+ - SPAM: Southern California Security

rpstrong (1659205) writes "I just received an email from my electric company (Southern California Edison) advising me that "for enhanced security," my login name would be automatically changed from my vendor-specific login name to my very public email address (with no actiion required on my part).

I've replied, asking how revealing half of my name/password combo would enhance my security, but haven't had time for a response.

Can anyone tell me how requiring an email address as a login name enhances security?"
