Submission + - Democratic Grandmas Gather Data on Their Neighbors (propublica.org)

An anonymous reader writes: A group of elderly Minnesota women known as the "Grandma Brigade" is set on supporting the Democratic party by gathering public information about other voters and entering it into a state database.

ProPublica's Lois Beckett writes, "Each piece of information the parties have stored about you might not be too interesting on its own. But taken together, they're incredibly powerful. Political campaigns are using this voter data to predict voters' behavior in increasingly sophisticated ways." Even the data that has no obvious application is closely guarded, she says.
