An anonymous reader writes "In Timbukto all sites of islamic saints have been destroyed. Similar developments took place in Saudi Arabia. What does this religious destruction mean for ancient sites in Egypt? How to protect cultural heritage sites against religious fanatics?"

  • You can't protect the religious from the religious. Let 'em fight it out and consider yourself lucky if they only demolish statues.

      Seriously, as long as they're just damaging property it's only vandalism. Minor compared to what goes on in a lot of places.
