Submission + - 16-year-old builds Windows Phone 8 malware prototype

An anonymous reader writes: Next week Microsoft may be suffering more than a little embarrassment as a 16-year-old Indian student is set to demonstrate a malware prototype running on Windows Phone 8.

High school student Shantanu Gawde does not intend to release the malware. Instead, at Malcon on November 24 he will demonstrate how it can be used to steal private data files stored on a Windows Phone 8 handset, copy contact lists, upload images to it, and view all text messages. After that, he will hand the prototype to Microsoft and any security vendors that wish to see it, so they can protect against and close the security holes he used.
