adeelarshad82 writes "Microsoft Research recently introduced Digits, a wrist-mounted sensor device that allows the wearer to manipulate and control objects in the digital world with fingertip gestures. What makes Digits so fascinating is that first it removes the need of wearing a data glove which covers the entire hand and second since the device is wrist worn, no line of site to an external sensor is required. Moreover, it's interesting to note that Digits is created using off the shelf hardware such as inertial measurement unit, IR diffuse illumination, IR camera and IR laser line. As the video demonstrates, Digits can be used in a wide range of scenarios such as using it as a gaming controller or to operate a smartphone without ever having to take it out of your pocket."
