Submission + - Apple faces EU scrutiny over product warranties (

another random user writes: The way Apple tells customers about product warranties is being scrutinised across Europe. The European Commission has asked members to find out if Apple is letting customers know about their right to a minimum two-year warranty. Consumer groups in 11 nations have complained that Apple has emphasised its own after-care service over statutory protections.

“Apple prominently advertised that its products come with a one-year manufacturer warranty but failed to clearly indicate the consumers’ automatic and free-of-cost entitlement to a minimum two-year guarantee under EU law,” EU Justice Commissioner Viviane Reding said to ministers in the letter, which was obtained by Bloomberg News. “These are unacceptable marketing practices.”
