+ - Python malware targets unpatched Macs-> 1

Submitted by Anonymous Coward
An anonymous reader writes "Anti-virus researchers at Sophos have discovered a malware attack that is targeting both Mac and Windows computers.

The attack, which exploits a Java vulnerability, uses a series of Python scripts on affected Macs to open a backdoor for remote hackers to steal files and run code.

Sophos says that It should "go without saying that you really should be running an up-to-date anti-virus, and be keeping up to date with security patches (like those available for Java)."

Although Windows users are generally pretty good about running anti-virus protection, Mac users are only just waking up to the need, according to the firm."

    Not sure if this story is anti-Mac, or just a sales pitch from Sophos to an untapped market that doesn't generally need their product.

    Logic dictates that if Mac-affecting viruses were at all common, people write news stories out of the few that happen - and they particularly wouldn't play down the fact that the same trojan affects Windows by not mentioning it in the title.
