+ - We strongly reccommended that you exit all Windows 1

Meshach (578918) writes "Nearly every Windows installer says it right after you launch the installer: "It is strongly recommended that you exit all Windows programs before running this setup program". But I want to know is there anyone who does this? Moreover is this dire warning really necessary? Judging from the number of times I have skipped it I would say not."

    I'm pretty sure it is just in case a program is accessing a file that the installer wants to edit. This is important when updating software libraries that other programs rely on. Windows generally won't let an installer finish if it tries to edit a file that it doesn't have rights to. I think this is why, I could be wrong though.
