2006 Google U.S Puzzle Championship Results 12

Kannappan writes "The complete results of the 2006 Google U.S Puzzle Championship have been announced. The online competition which featured more than 850 participants from all over the world had 23 interesting logical puzzles that were to be solved within the stipulated timeframe of 150 minutes. Usual suspects Zack Butler, Wei Hwa Huang, and Ulrich Voigt emerged in the top bracket but it was Thomas Snyder, a chemistry graduate student at Harvard, who finished with the topmost score of 370 points. Thomas, Wei Hwa, Zack and Roger Barkan will represent United States in the World Puzzle Championship which will be held in October at Borovets, Bulgaria. Interestingly the current world chess champion Veselin Topalov hails from Bulgaria."

  • If anyone's interested, I was looking at these, and (answer spoiler ahead): The answer to the "sudoku" variation is:
    3 1 6 4 2 7 5
    7 2 3 5 6 4 1
    5 4 2 1 7 3 6
    4 6 1 2 3 5 7
    1 5 7 3 4 6 2
    6 3 5 7 1 2 4
    2 7 4 6 5 1 3
Fun little variation on the game.
  • Google Doesn't care that there were less than 900 participants. They are interested in acquiring IQ. Even if the entrants only have mediocre computer skills Google doesn't mind. As long as they can solve Problems, google can translate the solutions into buisness practice and into Code. IMHO a good move for Google. Does Google need anyone who can chug a six pack of Coors Light pounders in under two minutes? If they do have them give me a call.
  • Ok so I'm a geek and I'm trying the puzzles. Sue me.

I got a valid answer for number 5 (Septoku) that's different from the "official" answer in the key. Anyone else finding multiple valid answers to any of the problems?
