Acclaim Game Franchises Bought By Throwback

simoniker writes "Canadian game publisher Throwback Entertainment has announced it has acquired the rights to the remaining Acclaim titles, following the major publisher's bankruptcy in 2004 and subsequent bankruptcy auctions. The titles bought by Throwback include Gladiator: Sword of Vengeance, Vexx, Extreme-G Racing, Legends of Wrestling, Re-Volt and Summer Heat Volleyball - but not the infamous Turok franchise, which is being remade by Buena Vista as a futuristic shooter."

I guess Throwback bought a lot of titles that should've been thrown back into the deep dark waters.

woah, woah, woah...have you played Re-Volt? I don't care how outdated graphics, sounds etc are. The game is PURE arcade fun. Less than a month ago I played it with friends(none of us are regular gamers...) and it was the one game which everybody enjoyed. I for one would not hesitate a moment spending my buck on a Re-Volt sequel if it manages to keep the spirit of the game.

Agree, Re-volt brings me great memories. People in my college got really addicted to the game and most of the times you could find someone playing it in the lan.

With the exception of ReVolt every one of those titles were flops. Why bother to buy them? Are they not creative enough to come up with their own game concepts and titles?

Maybe they just wanted Revolt, and had the rest thrust upon them? :-) Revolt was a LOT of fun. I hope they come out with another one.

I really enjoyed the first Extreme-G for N64. It wasn't a bad game - and a lot of the fog had to do with the N64's ability to render. It did give the game a certain atmosphere. A couple of the tracks later in the game had a decent bit of wow factor left in them, (insane drops, flocks of birds, lava, shiny surfaces) even after being excited about the early levels having cool lens flare effects. Granted, the whole game was clearly derivative of Wipeout, but it had its own charm. It did have a good sense

Xbox Live, GameTap and/or Nintendo's download service could make any of those worth a few bucks in the long run...well, except for Legends of Wrestling.

ReVolt was also a flop, at least at retail.

Compared to the other titles, it was a fantastic game, but it certainly didn't sell well.

Gaming industry would rather buy an unsuccessful game than make a uniquely creative one. It's easier.

Couldn't they at least have gotten Turok or NBA Jam or Mortal Kombat?

I can't even imagine what their plans are for these properties, but then, I also can't imagine who came up with the fantastic idea to buy up an anthropomorphic mascot character who couldn't compete with Bubsy, a shoddy Wipeout clone and a terrible beach volleyball game whose actual volleyball aspect couldn't even compete with a game whose sole purpose was to make 14 year [amazon.com]

Infamous means to be well known for BAD reasons. Daikatana could be one example of an Infamous game, as can Duke Nukem Forever... not Turok.
