E3 On Xbox Live Leads With Lost Planet 28

Next week all 360 owners can look forward to a free week of Xbox Live 'Gold service'. During the E3 events, dozens of pieces of downloadable content will be available via the service. Gamespot reports that this content will include a demo of the Capcom action-shooter Lost Planet. From the article: "One of the most anticipated titles tentatively set to ship for the 360 this year is Epic Games' Gears of War. While no demo for the third-person shooter will be made available, Microsoft will 'debut the first-ever Gears of War high-definition game trailer' on Xbox Live Marketplace. Several movie trailers will also be made available, as well as 'a flood of HD trailers from games that have yet to be announced.'"

I think I fit under the "all 360 owners", but they already have my money: I don't see how it's going to be "free" to me.

In fact they've been giving away a bunch of free weekends, so it seems... Doesn't this devalue the service for paying members?

Another shooter on the 360?! I never saw that one coming.. Between upcoming games this and GoW and Halo 3, I cant imagine how the 360 isnt selling better than any console before it! I mean, the range of games is so diverse!

Seriously, i thought microsoft were trying to make the Xbox 360 seem less 'hardcore', when are the games for the casual gamers going to show up?

    • Viva Pinata is supposedly going to be one of the most-marketed titles this year from Microsoft and they're going for a completely different demograph with that game.
      • Remember Blinx: Time Sweeper? Apparently they did (or were going to) put quite a large marketing force behind the game, hoping that Blinx would become somewhat of a mascot for the Xbox. That didn't pan out so well.

No matter how good it is, one game is not enough ...

Remember Nintendo got Metroid Prime (1 and 2), Resident Evil (0,remake, and 4), Eternal Darkness and many other 'Mature' games made for the Gamecube but was still maintained their steriotype. The fact that Halo 3 (which wont be released until summer 2007 at the earliest) will recieve 100 times the attention at E3 that Viva Pinata will demonstrates a serious problem; if Nintendo or Sony have a couple of their big games displayed (Zelda/Mario/Donkey Kong/Met

They might say they are going after the casual gamer, but the casual gamer is still happy with his/her Xbox or PS2. Casual gamers don't go out and drop $400+ for a console they are going to play a couple hours a week, if that.

        Or NES, for that matter.

I don't think it's supposed to be appealing to casual gamers, I think it's supposed to be a Wife Acceptance Factor thing - "Look honey, you can play Bejewled on it!"

Maybe once the price comes down, sure, but I think for right now it's the same idea behind releasing Phantom of the Opera as an HD-DVD launch title.
      • Honestly I'm of the opinion that anyone who bashes the lack of variety in the 360's current line up probably hasn't been paying attention. It seriously has quality titles in nearly every category. It's certainly more diverse then the line up that was available for most other consoles a few months after their launch.

And what would you consider to be a "casual gamer title"? Because by my definition there are plenty of those as well. I personally don't even like shooters, and I loathe the Halo series. Even
        • I never mentioned the lack of titles. I enjoy the most indepth games to the most simple ones. My statement was based on price point. Its just too expensive for someone that wants to play bejeweled from time to time.
          • That's very true, But the console wont always be that expensive, Most consoles are too expensive for that type of person for the first year or two of it's life. But with those games there NOW it makes it easier to adopt into a household with a variety of different types of gamers.
    • Yeah, the only games on the 360 are "shooters". Well, except for Amped, Bankshot Billards, Bejeweled, Blazing Angles, Burnout, Condemned, Crystal Quest, DOA4, Fight Night, Feeding Frenzy, FF11, Gauntlet, Geometry Wars, Backgammon, Hearts, Spaids, Hexic, Jewel Quest, Joust, Kameo, Tomb Raider, Madden, MLB 2k6, Marble Blast Ultra, Need for Speed, Outpost Kaloki, PGR3, Ridge Racer, Oblivion, Tiger Woods, Tony Hawk, Top Spin 2, Wik, or Zuma.

But, you know, who would want to count any of those anyway?
      • And how many of those are XBox360 exclusives?
        • Blazing Angles, Condemned, Crystal Quest, DOA4, Feeding Frenzy, Geometry Wars, Hexic, Jewel Quest, Kameo, MLB 2k6? (I have no idea..), Outpost Kaloki, PGR3, Ridge Racer, Top Spin 2 (not sure on this one), and Wik.

I'd also like to add in that Rumble Roses is an exclusive, and several others have been announced like Enchanted Arms (already released in Japan), Lost Odyssey, and Blue Dragon.. all Japanese RPGs.
        • If you're only counting console exclusive:

Amped, Bankshot Billiards, Bejeweled, Blazing Angles, Burnout, Condemned, Crystal Quest, DOA4, Fight Night, Feeding Frenzy, FF11, Gauntlet, Geometry Wars, Hardwood Backgammon, Hardwood Hearts, Hardwood Spades, Hexic, Jewel Quest, Joust, Kameo, Tomb Raider, Madden, MLB 2k6, Marble Blast Ultra, Need for Speed, Outpost Kaloki, PGR3, Ridge Racer, Oblivion, Tiger Woods, Tony Hawk, Top Spin 2, Wik, Zuma.
  • for the Wii? It would save on /. stories.
  • I just love the concept of "trailers" I know I am beating a dead horse but why do I get the feeling what is shown in the trailers does not match up with what is in the game, now they have a new toy where they can play that game with us all over again. I agree with the diverse nature of the games though :-) -- This is not a signature...no seriously!
