Journal crlove's Journal: Home wiring - planning ahead 2

I'll be building a house soon. After I'm moved in, I'd like the ability to run new wiring throughout the house easily when I'd like to, without there being ugly panels in the walls. Any suggestions?

  • If you are building the house, you should consider putting conduit in the walls before the drywall goes up. That way all you see on the wall is the faceplate (don't forget pull tabs). Make all the conduit go to a central wiring closet (don't forget electricity in the closet). If you have conduit/pulltabs you can pull whatever you want/need later. Presumably your phone and cable connections would be in the closet as well.

    • Thanks for the thoughts. Wireless WOULD be the ideal way to go, if I could manage it. I swear I'd heard about something they can build into new homes now that allows access to wiring, but looks "seamless" when closed up...not sure how it would work, and can't find anything on Google. Maybe I'll talk to the contractor
