Journal 4lex's Journal: Trusted computing is coming...

...what will you do about it?

For starters, if you -like me- haven't readed anything about all this BS in the last months, lend some minutes to EFF's analysis. It does, IMHO, a good work in presenting pros, cons, and a non-damaging-the-user's-rights alternative: Owner Override. Basically, trusted computing could be a good thing if you remain master of your hardware, trusted computing is not synonymous with "all your BIOS are belong to us".

And how can you fight for your rights? I honestly don't know the best alternative. Presently, I fight for Free software and for Free music. If Free software is widely used by the time TCPA comes -which I believe will happen, at least in Spain, where I reside-, TCPA will have to allow Debian to boot and work flawlessly... or else someone else will step in to sell us computers. If Free music is widely used by that time (what I frankly doubt, and regret), consumers will not be locked-in by privative music distributors, no matter what kind of DRM they might choose to implement.
