Journal MonTemplar's Journal: Hello, Circle. Miss me much? 9

It's been a while since I posted something here. Guess my /. craving is subsiding now that I've got the My Amigos and /. feeds plugged into my Bloglines. Been posting (and recycling) stuff to my website instead of late, as well as trying to catch up a bit with goings-on over at DeviantArt.

I've also set up a LiveJournal ID, mainly so that I can follow and reply to stuff that my LJ-using Amigos write there (hi to Leo, SW and Interrobang!) You can probably guess my username. :)

Some good news at work, the MD's wallet has opened. We've got a new CD duplicator tower, plus replacement drives for two of our existing towers, so we should have much more throughput now for those big orders. Hopefully, this means that a move on the new server box I was helping to spec before Christmas might actually be happening sometime soon. Hey, they might even give me a payrise, at this rate (I can hope!)

Just put in an order at Hard-To-Find Records for a cheap record deck with pre-amp that I can plug directly into my PC, to rip vinyl and make MP3s from them. I might have a nosey and see if I can rip some of my Dad's old jazz collection while I'm at it...

No snow yet. :(

Hello, Circle. Miss me much?

  • who are you again?

haha... of course! *sniff* we missed you man *sniff*

come here and give me a big hug!

  • Which turntable? Can we expect a review in the future?
    • It's the KAM [kam.co.uk] TT50 PC ready deck - sorry, can't give you a direct like, site uses frames and Java *shakes fist*.

Note, PC ready means that it's got the right connectors for most soundards' LINE-IN sockets.

You want a review?! This is Slashdot, George, not 'What Hi-FI' ! :D

      • This is something I've been meaning to do for a while, and coincidentally, I've been giving it a bit more thought over the past few days. I have a decent turntable and amp (both NAD).

I'd like recommendations for a) a decent soundcard with good S:N ratio for line in, and b) software to use. Sure, I could cat /dev/whatever to get the raw data, but I'd ideally want something that would take a stab at splitting the stream into individual tracks, and would let me manually tweak it when it guessed wrong.

      • TT50 [kam.co.uk]

        Wecome back! :)

      • I've been meaning to do something similar myself. Not that I have a lot of records, but most aren't available on CD. I've got a few too many things on the go at the moment to do this just yet, but one day I'll buy myself a similar turntable to do the job...

Note, PC ready means that it's got the right connectors for most soundards' LINE-IN sockets.

I thought the PC-ready bit meant that it has a built-in pre-amp so the output is at "line out" levels rather than "phono" levels.
      • PC Ready, bah. ;)

I use an iMic [griffintechnology.com], which works pretty well. No quality complaints, so far.

    How goes it, amigo? =)

If all else fails, lower your standards.
