Journal handsomepete's Journal: Resident Evil 4
Jaw-dropping graphics/animation/sound/voice acting - plus (so far) a perfect camera
Virtually no load times (this has become a mysteriously important attribute to me)
Good controls
Interesting story (so far)
Excellent action
Some fun (easy) puzzles
Genuine tension/excitement
rpg-ish elements with a store system and weapon upgrades
Huge detailed bosses and enemies (if you've seen the pictures, they're pretty accurate)
The enemies are almost smart - they know how to get at you almost everywhere you try to hide
Interactive cut scenes (i.e. press various buttons to run from a boulder and dodge it)
Bear traps. Best. Idea. Ever.
So far I have ~3 hours recorded on my save game and I'm in level 2-2 (out of 5-3 or so), but I think I've actually spent twice that just screwing around or dying and reloading or replaying boss battles for fun. I just found the president's daughter. Finding or creating a place to keep her safe isn't nearly as irritating as I thought it would be - it's actually fun. When I got back to the village, I took her into a two story house, barricaded the front door and window and left her upstairs. By the time I got back down, the villagers had busted down my barricades. After I cleared 'em out I noticed that there was a ladder to the second floor outside. Got up there just in time to kick it down in front of a climbing villager and take off his head with a rifle. That's neat. Anyways, all I'm saying is that even if you don't like this type of game or have never like Resident Evil games (like me), you might want to try it out. It's really really good.
