Journal Gadzinka's Journal: Modbombs away! 6

So I was modbombed for the first time ;)

I must say it was quite funny. Basically I wrote about possibility, that one's moderation down to -1 may also mean, that poster writes things unpopular on slashdot. In this case I meant about "unamerican" ideas, but it happened to me also e.g. on apple or bsd /. subforums.

And guess what? I finally received comment moderation details and here they are:

  • Offtopic -3
  • Flamebait -1
  • Overrated -2
  • Troll -1
  • Informative +1
  • Interesting +1
  • Underrated +2
  • Insightful +3

Do those people have nothing better to do? ;)

Modbombs away!

  • Atually, that would not construe mod-bombing.

Mod-bombing is when someone decides that they hate you, and get all their friends together with mod points to mod you down.

When I was mod bombed, various comments of mine (all over the place) were modded down by over 20 points. My Karma fell from excellent to good, and my subnet was banned off Slashdot. I couldn't post for a while, and I complained to the editors - at which point, they modded up a few of the posts and I could post again - after a good week.

      s/atually/actually; s/construe/constitute

      I need sleep.
    • OK, so what's the deal with people modding me "overrated" lately? I mean, back in the good old days when I was mildly trolling/flaming I got decent couple of "-1 troll/flamebait" and was happy to get what I asked for. But lately whenever I write "fair and balanced" posts on "difficult" topics, I routinely get modded "overrated" -- something that didn't happen before at all.

Did I step on someone's toe?

      • I think modding overrated is often used when people hate your comment, but they can't exactly say why :-) Now I gotta go find this comment of which you speak so I can partake of it myself.
      • Oh yeah, that's been one of the most fucked up things on Slashdot for a long, long time buddy. FortKnox and Michael had a problem over that - basically Overrated and Underrated mods have been created so that the system has elements outside the M2M thingy. Good idea conceptually, bad idea w.r.t the way it is implemented..

Everytime I've been modbombed (four times so far, I think), my comments have been modded as overrated. If one comment gets to you, imagine having over 20 of your comments being modded -1 ov
