Journal recursiv's Journal: 100% Karma Substitute 21
Bummed because you maxed out your karma? Got the 50-karma-can't-get-more blues?
Try getting friends instead! There seems to be no limit to the number of friends one can have, so even if you get 50, you can keep going!

I also take an odd stance (well, in the sense of what I see going on around here) that discussing desktop wars and server software is like discussing religion and politics - some people have whatever views they have for whatever reason. To think you're going to convince someone of something is futile and a waste of everyone's time who reads such a post. To discuss something from you point of view is entirely different. Consider "Linux does not belong on the desktop blah blah balh" versus "Given these agurments [enumerated list] I feel that Linux is making strides to support greater number of needed desktop applications to support common user senarios..." The second approach seems to allow for a better discussion since specific things are listed for a supporting view and will probably begin a very interesting discussion no matter what your stance. To talk about things so you can better understand opposing views or recent news items from differnt view points is valuable to me and why I bother to check the posts on
I list as friends people I see who "get it." Who at least seem to be able to (on occasion) post thoughtful things that progress the discussion. Now, don't take that that those are the only people I list, it never hurts to add some weirdo who has journals that are odd that brightens your day.
I have firm beleifs regarding religion, politics, and OS wars and I know I do. There are things I haven't made up my mind about, such as executing the mentaly retarded, and I feel I would like to examine those subjects before I just post or have water-cooler discussions about them. However, no matter which side of the fence I land on having (preferably clear and interesting) opposing views will be welcome.
Give props to whatever OS, be witty with funny things, and don't post things that generally bog down my day and you'll probably become a friend of mine.

It also just boils down to pushing buttons. The friends route just cuts out all the middleman bullshit. 1 button press == 1 friend.
Although, I like the challenge of gaining fans. But really, you can do that the same way, because when you add someone as a friend about 1% of the time, they will reciprocate.

Actually... I think it is more rewarding to get "freaks"! I only have two up until now.
