  • ~ what is the price range on your camera? "I'm in the market, as it were." (Pirates of the Carribean quote)
    • My camera was about $350 when I bought it, but the prices have fallen since then, and there are also newer models available. If you just want a simple point-and-shoot camera without any manual controls, you should be able to find a less expensive camera. My previous camera was a decent 35mm SLR, so I am used to and really enjoy the manual controls. A digial SLR was way too expensive for me.
  • If you want complete control over every setting (aperature, shutter speed, ISO rating, white balance compensation, flash power, etc) with a 10x optical zoom (with a gyro stabilized lense element) and a 640x480 @30fps movie mode... then consider the Canon Powershot S1-is [dpreview.com]. The only real issues I found are a lack of auto focus assist lamp for low light (ie parties indoors with low light) which causes slow autofocus (if at all) and the lense cap issue.
