Journal TheIndividual's Journal: False DMCA copyright accusations by James Ewing 10

Hello community, this time James has gone too far.
He wrote a DMCA complaint to the hosters of my mirrors, claiming that those files were under his copyright and asking for their removal.
Those emails prove once and for all how James works and how he tries to circumvent the GPL in every possible way.
Please take your time to read this and my comments in red: The email conversation

  • Leaving aside that his arguments are outrageous lies in the first place (first his code is GPL, then it isn't)...

If James' arguments about his firmware images are correct (I put some non-GPL stuff in the firmware's "user space," so it's no longer GPL), then they work for Linksys too!

There would be no need for Linksys to have released the original firmware in the first place!

I think we should send his comments straight to Linksys headquarters, so they can immediately revoke his (and everyone else's) licen

  • Hey, it took me a while to find out you run a forum @ http://forum.bsr-clan.de/viewforum.php?f=12 Please add that to your journal. Consider how Sveasoft and Linksysinfo prevents any criticism of James' tactics in their forums, it's important that everyone who's looking for an alternative community knows where it is.
  • Are there any forks or comperable alternatives to the Sveasoft firmware? Considering the 5.x series might cause instant teleportation to hell, I'm hoping to evaluate some other WRT54G distros.
The ones I've seen so far have been minimalistic builds at best... HyperWRT [hyperdrive.be] may be the best bet, as OpenWRT [openwrt.org] is completely bare bones.
