penguinoid's Journal: Funny/Overrated murders karma

So I posted a joke to a story about estimating. Now it wasn't a particularly good joke, but evidentially quite a few people thought it was very funny, others didn't. Results:

* +11, Funny
* + 1, Insightful
* - 9, Overrated

* Karma:Exellent --> Karma:Good
* "Your IP has been temporarily blacklisted due to bad posting"

Now I have heard that +1, Funny and -1, Overrated will change karma by different amounts (specifically, funny will only add a little while overrated will take off a lot). If that is so, I really think that it should be changed in the following manner: Overrated should take off just as many points as the current positive attribute the post has. If the post is at or below the karma level it was posted at, remove a different amount of karma

I just think some moderators think it would be funny to make post get exactly the estimated +3. So in fact you've made a metamoderation joke.
So now everytime someone moderates it +1 funny, someone else "fix it" with an overrated mod (not troll or flamebait, since they dont want to get metamoderated).

Any "funny" moderations won't help your karma as much as it used it, whereas any negative mods could effectively wreck your karma. In a nutshell, having 10 people mod you funny isn't worth jack shit if only a few mods nail you with overrated, flamebait, troll, etc. Even if the mods alternate one by one with Funny and Overrated and Funny and Troll, that'll kill your Karma.

I just found you post through metamod. Unfortunately, Slashdot's moderation system is horribly broken, so the most horribly abused moderation, 'overrated', doesn't show up in metamod. I get to metamod only the 'insightful' one.

It's just ridiculous that you can lose infinitely many karma points from posting a joke, when a GNAA troll never loses more than 3 points per post. Come to think of it, many of the 'overrated' mods were probably just trying to get you down to 3, funny, and the other 'funny' mods wer

Oh, and the same thing is happening to my post here [slashdot.org]. My karma is still excellent, but I've lost the +1 karma bonus modifier from the post, it seems. It was at 5 once, now it's a measly 3.

So I found out that the IP ban lasts about a week, and that you can still write to your journal but not post to it.
