Journal sulli's Journal: Excessive Bad Posting?! 12

Due to excessive bad posting from this IP or Subnet, anonymous comment posting has temporarily been disabled. You can still login to post. However, if bad posting continues from your IP or Subnet that privilege could be revoked as well. If it's you, consider this a chance to sit in the timeout corner or login and improve your posting . If it's someone else, this is a chance to hunt them down. If you think this is unfair, please email moderation@slashdot.org with your MD5'd IPID and SubnetID, which are "BLAH" and "BLAH" and (optionally, but preferably) your IP number "ha.ha.ha.ha" and your username "sulli".

Dude. I posted two cheap flames. Maybe three. I knew slashdot was getting strict, but damn.

Excessive Bad Posting?!

They do a lot of stuff like this. For example, did you know that there's a daily limit on the number of posts they let you do in a day? I think I hit it once, I was bored. And there are a couple other things that you can do to get blocked by the dot that nobody but the people running this site would consider bannable offenses.

You're confused. What you're referring to are things that are block by disallowing them in software. What sulli is referring to is something completely different, where he is getting punished for bad behavior.

Also, the threshold of anonymous posting denial is much lower than more serious bans (such as posting comments when logged in), and it is done automatically, based on the relative karma of anonymous postings from the location in question.
      • Neat.
        That makes sense.
        Thanks for the note.

Also, this is "karma" for specific IPs.
I sometimes use proxy servers and a lot of time will run into an IP that's banned from posting, and some IPs are even banned from reading slashdot.

So the problem could be that someone else at your ISP is a slashdot troll and ruine
      • Hey pudge I looked in the FAQ for some documentation on what bad behavior is and how Slashdot would punish me, and I couldn't find any. Do you guys have any plans for telling your users what they're doing that the administration thinks is wrong, and what the list of punishments are?

It appears that sulli was banned from commenting for posting this comment [slashdot.org]. Personally I would have never known that this was bad behavior, or that Slashdot would feel the need to punish me for it. Who judges? What is bad? What a

And that limit is dependent on karma. I first found out about it when I had bad karma, which limits you to 10 posts within 24 hours. I never got below bad karma. I wonder what they call it, awful?
  • You said you posted a few flames. In your history I only see two -1 posts recently. Were the flames of which you spoke AC? Maybe it's to discourage that behavior? Don't know, just a guess. Neither of the two I saw were things I would have modded south, and the Apple/Beltway comment I might even have pushed up.

My beef with moderation lately is the chichenshit asshats with the -1, Overrated, surely the AC of moderation.
    • But if you believe CT, Overrated is not overused.

Yeah, I think it's a crock of shit too. Seems like more than a third of the mods done to my comments are under/over.

      • I'd say it tends to be about 1:4 in my case. Frequently I'll get hit with an Overrated almost immediately after posting, then (sometimes) get a few positive mods over the next hour or three.

I had some fun sloshing through a giant sunday morning political flamefest recently, and the Overrated mods were strong that day... like an old man at a deli, trying to send soup back. Oops, sorry, I digressed. But yeah, it sucks, and I don't understand why they don't either address it in some way, or let it show up in

HELP!!!! I'm being held prisoner in /usr/games/lib!
