Would someone explain for what reason Slashdot is checking the personal web server on my computer to see if it is an HTTP proxy?

I just recently saw that too. I'm wondering what's going on with that. I think it might be to check to see what pages say it's ok to be linked from Slashdot. Or so that's my best guess. So I guess if you don't have the ok.txt then they might cache the page or something.

No, that can't be right. If it was trying to access "ok.txt" on my server, the request would have just been "GET ok.txt". The http:// part clearly indicates that they're looking for proxies.

And I doubt the slashdot editors have ever cared about slashdotting anyone.

oops, yeah you have a point. my haste and stupidty are partly coming from it being "that time", meaning finals.
