War against evil is
like gasoline against fire.
I consider myself a truly patriotic American, who is also interested in making the world a better place. This is exactly why I don't support continued US military action in Afghanistan and Iraq. It seems to me that evil and terror are not decreased by shooting at people in their own country, picking them off one and two at a time with spyplane-launched missiles at night as they come out of church, nor hurting their children who can't help but be in the way.
President George W. Bush has been driving the United States of America to "war-on-" something ever since he got started. Drugs, crime, poverty, Osama Bin Laden, Terror, Iraq, Evil... but you'll notice that he never seems to want to do away with war itself.
Stop the terror?
Stop the evil?
Stop the war.

Just sit back and hope that we never get hit again? I understand what you're saying about the war on terrorism provoking more terrorism, but I don't see a suggested alternative in your post. I'm not doing this to push your buttons, just to hear your thoughts.

Obviously, I hope, our involvement already obligates our nation to help them back on their feet organizationally, and financially. Once a reasonable amount of aid has been given (if it's even wanted), we should leave their country to them, and tend to our own.
Just like all the other well-behaved countries in the world, we could worry about stuff that crosses our own borders and what affects us directly rather than trying to force the outside world to be a better place.
