Journal Rapid Home Offer's Journal: Do you know what's weird about having a subscription? 10

Having a subscription is weird. You see all of the stories early, but you can't post on them. Yeah, I see the need for this, but they ignore peoples' reason for posting. They feel like they have something important to share with others. So, here you are with a comment burning holes in your fingertips, and what do you end up doing? Moving on to the next story, that's what.

Do you know what's weird about having a subscription?

  • Signing up for a slashdot subscription for the sole purpose of karma whoring and pimping your lame-ass real estate website.

I can't wait for the Fed to raise interest rates.
    • I've been a slashdot user for a long time. From what I've seen, most people can separate the comment from the signature, especially when it's marked off as well as mine. Slashdot even has an option to turn off the display of the signature.

I think it's strange that this pisses you off enough to troll my journal about it. Why would you do that? Why do you care? Seems that two other posts agree with you, though. Well, I'll start another Journal entry to give you guys a Rapid Home Offer bashing forum if
      • It's just that the posts seem to be a blatent move to get yourself modded up. Then when the page gets archived, at the very least your homepage URL is retained and that is very favorably receieved by Google, thus boosting your site rank.

So in effect you post half-drivel (which is better than most comments, admittedly) to use Slashdot's Google-cred to boost your sales.

That makes me feel ill. Karma whoring of the worst kind. You could at least pretend it had some kind of intrinsic value instead of twisting

I think this is the essence of slashdot. People post stories and comments so that other people will read them. There's an ego boost when you see your comment ranked highly, and that is very fulfilling.

That's why everybody links to their websites here. For example, would y

          • If you know a real estate investor who has ever harmed or taken advantage of another person financially, then you've found a very bad person.

This wording is not exactly right. When I say "taken advantage of", I mean in the bad way, where the investor profits, and the homeowner loses. In normal real estate investing, the home owner takes advantage of the investor as much as the investor takes advantage of them. So, in essence, both parties profit greatly from the deal. I'll be glad to elaborate on why thi

          • 1) Trying to trade slashdot Karma for economic advantage to me is a bad thing. Posters should be posting comments that get moderated highly solely for the reason that they want to inform slashdot readers about the topic at hand, or they genuinely wish to entertain.

A shallow attempt with alterior motives ultimately wastes moderator's points on other posts that could be modded up. I'm not saying your posts are otherwise without value, but it contributes to the general decline of the signal to noise ratio (wh
            • it's important.

I spend a lot of time on Slashdot, and I even have a subscription (as I note you do as well).

Then you may well agree with me that the primary reason I go to Slashdot is not for the amazing editorial content of the articles but the contents of the comments.

I justify spending so much time on Slashdot because I feel that the comments have real value in augmenting my experience with technologies I use in the workplace and an academic setting. I usually feel no reason to believe otherwise that
        • Your first friend on your friends list is autopr0n. He's one of the original slashdot google-bombers. Okay, so maybe his comments are, on average, less lame than mine, but he posts here partially to get a high ranking on google, and he has the same number of links to his site in every post as I do.

Well, I don't think you'll make me one of your friends, but I hope this gives a little perspective to you that I'm not such an aberration.
          • because he's a straight shooter. I use it to give him that extra +1 to make his posts stand out. Also, sometimes he posts "interesting" links. :-) I'm not opposed to pr0n, especially when it's free. ::sigh::

          • ...if you told me what your _other_ UID was that you have been using all this time. I would befriend that UID and encourage you to use it more often.

I wouldn't ask you to remove the URLs from your homepage link or signature in that your friggin username is "Rapid Home Offer" so it doesn't make since to continue using the account afterwards unless you thought it was funny in retrospect...
