Journal bravehamster's Journal: Day 7 - Progress Report 8

So far so good...I've lost 8 pounds so far, and it's only been a week. Granted, I've got plenty to lose, so it's comparable to a skinny person losing a 1/2 pound.

The pills I'm using leave a weird aftertaste in mouth, like I stood to close to a campfire a few days back. It's not terrible, but it's one of a few side effects I've noticed.

I'm beginning to grow quite fond of the taste of Diet Mountain Dew. (Yeah, keep telling yourself that buddy.)

The daily workouts have been getting easier, so I've increased the resistance on the stationary bike. I get to really catch up on my reading. Just finished Clade. It was a good book, but it bogged down sometimes in techno-bio-future-speak.

That's it for now. I'll try to write in here more often, every 2 or 3 days.

  • Good plan and good forum for accountability!
Weight watchers would be (more or less) proud of you. (They'd argue against the Slim Fast, but agree basically with the rest.)

A Naval Acad. plebe ought to have the commitment to carry through. How many lbs are you looking to lose?
    • My weight is currently hovering around 245, and I'm looking to get down to 200-210. I think that's the point where'd I'd feel "healthy". Anything below that would be gravy....mmmm....gravy ;)

  • Almost every evening I unwind after work by watching Simpsons and then Seinfeld. Brilliant idea: use the ski machine hanging around the house for part of that hour!

I started using it only a few minutes, and eventually worked up to 15. Yesterday I "skied" through the *entire* Simpsons episode, and then some (25 minutes!).

Good luck man, but I would be careful with that ephedra. The TV news makes it sound scary and I know for a fact they never exaggerate!
  • I wish you well and assure you that soon enough you won't even want to drink the regular Dew. I switched about a year ago, and now I can't handle the non-diet stuff, just too sweet. Depending on how much soda you drink, that'll cut hundreds of calories right there.

Also, some links you might want to check out. John Stone [johnstonefitness.com] documented his fitness program and it was pretty incredible. Check out the animated gifs he put together of his progress. Anyway, he's got a lot of good info on the site -- workout logs, li

    • Holy cow, that John Stone link is fantastic. Look at what he did! Amazing. The charts really demonstrate what discipline and willpower can do.

If I had mod points, I'd pump your post up. That link really is inspiring...

  • I'm sure everybody has got lots of advice for you. Here's a little more. You listed your reasons for losing weight and one of them was your health - and you could be making better choices for that particular item by eating healthier food.

In America there is a confusing and blurry line between what is "not fattening" and what is "healthy." It's important that you choose foods based not only on what's not in it, but what is _in_ it.

The worst health choices are heavily processed foods. Diet shakes, die

  • At my worst, I was maybe 40-45 lbs overweight. I'm now around 20 over where I should be. I lost part of it years ago on the carb. addicts diet... no carbs except for an hour out of the day where anything goes. It worked well: I lost 25 lbs in a month and stopped the diet.

I tried to go back to it several months later but was trying to more aggressively work out. I couldn't stick with the diet because of weakness and headaches I was getting.

What I need to do now is simple and a matter of willpower, and is c
