Journal Chacham's Journal: Verbiage: AIM and sounds 7

So, i use AIM. When the sound is turned off, it just seems weird. Am i so indoctrinated that the AIM experience requires the sound?

The best option i saw in a messenger was to have only the first message make the sound. But, then again, it takes time getting used to.

    Them again? Them again???

Come on, who's checking this stuff?

  • Avoid it like the plague. If you want to get ahold of me, that is the purpose of email. Basically, when I sit at the computer I usually have something to do and getting bothered every 5 minutes is awful. Like if I am programming I do not want to have someone poking in bothering me.

Granted, I guess most folks like the distraction.

  • Do you still use ICQ? It's in your profile. There's not much reason for using both since the latest ICQ version allows you to add AIM users to your list.
    • I do use both. I was even an advocate of ICQ when AIM went public.

However, AIM is simply easier to use. So, i have ICQ loaded, but it is not my messenger of choice.
  • I have found that the sounds for PSI are among the best sounds for any program I have ever used (aside from maybe games.)

The AIM sounds annoy me greatly. KDE's sounds annoy me greatly. In fact, PSI is about the only app on my machine that makes any noise, and it has everything set to the default sound. I get a little subtle ding everytime I send or receive a message. The PSI sounds are simply refreshing. Even if you don't use jabber, PSI would be worth downloading just to extract the wav's for use with AIM
