Journal Chacham's Journal: Question: The difference between walking and running 2
What is the difference between walking and running? I've see people say it is whether a foot is alkways on the ground or not, and similar things.
Personally, i define walking as the feet pulling the body, and running as the feet are pushing the body. Thus, usually, the feet are in front of the person when walking (and behind when walking backwards) and the feet are behind when running (and in front when running backwards). I like this definition because it is very clear, and the distinction makes sense.

If no- you're running. running involves throwing yourself forward. The feet push you when you're walking, just slower- you're falling forward to be propped up by the other foot. In running, you're throwing yourself
It depends... (Score:2)
Regardless of how your foot lands, I've been told it is all about heart rate. A long walk that does not give your cardio system a workout is rumored to not be worth much from a health perspective - or so my bride tells me.
