Journal Espectr0's Journal: Will Venezuela get a referendum? 1

According to Constitution, if 20% of the voters sign a petition, there must be general elections that decide if the president stays in power after half of the term.

The goverment is trying everything it can to impede this. A month ago, the national electoral council dismissed the signatures people made because they were "old" (i.e, collected before the half of the term)

If the country doesn't get the referendum elections, this country may go to a civil war. Although it could happen the same if:

-Referendum goes, president loses
- " " wins
-No referendum

    I wonder how things had turned out if the US had kept Chavez a little closer. At this point, it seems like he's planning on staying for a long time and calling in his Cuban friends to keep him in power, but maybe if had felt less threatened he would have acted differently.

    For the same reason, I think the US should keep less distance from da Silva in Brazil. It should be made clear that whatever his views, as long as he maintains democracy and civil rights he's
