  • I'm supposed to look to the government for all of my daily needs, in a parental fashion, and at the same time view all of the National Security efforts as diabolical.
Is there some tension here, or am I seeing things? How do you resolve it?
    • Yes, the government is just supposed to put the money on the dresser and leave...

      • I don't think you have a clear understanding about the fleshly human lust for power over other humans works, exactly. . .
        • That's funny. You obviously don't have the slightest clue as to who holds the power over other humans. But thanks for confirming you haven't heard a word I've said all along.

          • Well, we hold the power over ourselves, but the amount of suasion imposed by the context is heavy.

thanks for confirming you haven't heard a word I've said all along

How was I supposed to hear anything? This is a non-audio medium.
Past the bloody-minded jokes, though, you've been a river of sophistry these months/years. How about going for something of value instead?

            • ...you've been a river of sophistry...

And you of superstition, and a perfect example of Pavlov/Skinner/Milgram/Stanford in action, proof that critical thinking is superfluous for survival of the species.

              • AND YET, you haven't offered any useful alternative formulation for why we are here.
Our over-arching societal mistake since the Godless Commies of the Frankfurt School arrived has been to let you get away with trash like "proof that critical thinking is superfluous for survival of the species".
Ya got nothin', and you expect me to feel something (cowed, I suppose?) by your capacity to hurl invective.
Your ideas are a pile of falsehood.
                • AND YET, you haven't offered any useful alternative formulation for why we are here.

I have no need to. It is nothing but a masturbatory exercise for the idle mind when the stomach is full and Mr. Happy content. It's not essential to anything, only part of cultural superstition to assert authority.

                  • AND YET, you seem to feel the need to diminish my views at every turn. Just so you know: I'm laughing at you.
                    • AND YET, you seem to feel the need to diminish my views at every turn.

Only your desire to pass them into law.

                      I'm laughing at you.

                    • WHAT have I desired to pass into law? Be specific.
                    • Well, let's see... You "cheerfully voted for Virginia's Constitutional Amendment..." that upholds the grand tradition of centuries of suppression of the right to a business contract (that being what marriage is) by a certain group of people you disapprove of. It's a classic case of that thing you so vehemently deny.

Now I have to ask, is this little infinite loop an intentional distraction, or are you just becoming more forgetful?

                    • are you just becoming more forgetful?

Mostly correct here. It was late, and I read "pass into law" as "enact via legislation", not "vote for State Constitutional Amendment".
This invites the question: do I hold illegal opinions? I also think that life begins when the information that defines you is complete. Marriage variations and butchering the unborn, while the ethical law of the land, are immoral.
Just as I defend free speech and the right to bear arms, these are things that I cannot let go.

                    • ...are immoral.

to you, as dictated by your upbringing, hardly universal by any means.

And please explain how something is ethical without being moral.. Is it only by the absence of your deity?

                    • Since you ask. [theothermccain.com]
                    • Thanks for confirming, morals are personal, a way to live your own life, and that you really do appeal to authority in so easily rationalizing its abuse.

                    • Please explain how, anywhere, I have

appeal[ed] to authority in so easily rationalizing its abuse

Seriously. If anything, my position is precisely the opposite of what you say. Anyone who winds up in a position of authority (existentially unavoidable as such are) had better fear God, and humbly execute that office. One should know that, while you can scam the people here under the sun, the Judge Eternal remains unimpressed by shenanigans, and operate accordingly.
Meanwhile, I take it that you reject the point of my essay, or are you just recreationally hurling accusat
